Friday 13 December
I got a taxi to the station
and then had to hang around for the train which had a one hour delay. The
carriage was completely full so it’s lucky I’d booked a few days in advance.
The SE3 soft-seat carriage is a bit more luxurious than its LC4 equivalent.
It’s air conditioned; and one can see out of the window. Which was good because
the trip is as scenic as the guidebooks say. The South China Sea on one side
and mountains on the other – what you can see of them. They were on the sunny
side of the train and the curtains were mainly drawn!
One of the unwanted luxuries
of the carriage was Rail TV. For the first hour this blasted out an
indescribably bad talent show for what looked like 6 to 8 year olds, who sang
out of tune, some behaving well beyond their years.
