I went for another walk,
taking in the opera house, post office, cathedral and an outside exhibition of photos commemorating the late General Giap before arriving at the Saigon River bank. 
I went on to the Independence Palace which was
very interesting and seemed to have a fairly even-handed set of descriptions. 
During my visit there was a
cloudburst that trapped visitors until after other museums were closing, so I called
it a day and went back to the hotel before eating and having a beer
people-watching at one of the bars that line the street where my hotel is. It
seems to be the drinking quarter of Saigon!
