No Money wanted

Saturday 14 December

I went for a tour of some of the sites of Hoi An old town, including the Japanese covered bridge and various temples and meeting houses. It was all very interesting. I think I’m gradually absorbing the Temple culture. I also went to the market and got pleasantly ripped off by the lady selling mandarins. But then I had the opposite experience at a tailor’s workshop near the hotel. My shorts were about two inches too big and I asked them if they could bring the waist in. No problem. It was done in 10 minutes by a very happy smiling group of ladies. When it came to paying they were so emphatic with ‘No Money’ that I really took it that they meant it. Incredible really. It’s a shame that their approach is not mirrored by the thieving taxi drivers at HaNoi station.
